听力原文: Finland is perhaps the most beautiful and mysterious country of northern Europe. Two-thirds of its surface is covered with thick forests and among them lies lakes, connected with rivers and canals. The northern part of this country is inside the Arctic Circle, almost no trees can grow because of its cold weather and the people use their deer for transport, clothing and food.
The Finnish history began in the Middle Ages. In about 1155, Finland was conquered by its western neighbor Sweden. After a period of rule by Denmark in the 14th century, it won back independence and power in 1523 under their brave king. During the 1814-1818 Napoleonic Wars Finland was passed finally from Sweden to Russia. The opportunity came in 1917, when the Russian Revolution brought foreign rule of Finland to an end. Shortly after Soviet Russia made peace with Germany, 1919 saw the founding of the Finnish Republic.
The years between the First and Second World Wars were years of progress and growing development. Finland has no coal or oil, and the nation's wealth lies in the timber from its forests, which supplies material for paper and furniture making, and in the electric power from its water.

Section B
Directions: There are 2 passages in this section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice.
Wind-generated power offers many advantages for an energy-hungry society that is becoming increasingly aware of the negative environmental effect of conventional electricity-generating systems. In contrast to coal or oil-fired power stations in which the majority of California's electricity is produced, wind-powered stations have a minimal effect on the environment. They don't produce carbon dioxide emissions, which add to the Greenhouse Effect; nor do they contribute to the phenomenon of acid rain, which kill the lakes and forests where it falls. Unlike nuclear plants, wind stations cannot become another Chernobyl.
Wind power, like solar, hydro-electric and tidal power, is an infinitely renewable, non-polluting source of energy and is becoming increasingly important in satisfying the state's energy needs. However, if there is no wind, there will be no power. Even when the wind stations are sited on the windiest hills there is no guarantee that the wind will blow 24 hours a day.
Until ways can be found to store generated power that can be used when the winds die down, wind power will remain a supplementary source of the state's energy. Present wind towers still require a minimum wind speed of around 25 kilometers per hour to generate commercially usable electricity. It is expected that improvements in the technology will lower this speed and increase the efficiency of production. At present, however, installation and running costs and low efficiency mean that wind power is not economically competitive with conventional fossil or nuclear stations.
Environmentalists are also concerned about the visual effect wind stations have on the landscape. In order to generate commercially usable quantities of electricity it is necessary to install a large number of wind towers.
In the Los Remos scheme there. are 150 steel wind towers, each around 30 meters high, covering a total area of 80 hectares. They are silent and safe but ugly, making the beautiful Los Remos Range begin to look like Manhattan in miniature.
Harnessing the wind does offer a clean, renewable source of energy, but until technology increases the efficiency and reliability of the system it will not be able to replace conventional fossil fuel or nuclear powered stations.
The main advantage of wind powered stations is that______.

A. it does not have polluting effects
B. it is available at any time
C. it can satisfy the state's energy needs
D. it can beautify the environment

A. Y
B. N
C. NG
