听力原文: Tecumseh was a Shawnee Indian warrior who was born in Ohio in 1768. He saw little peace during his life, but he never gave up his dream of getting all the Indian nations together to protect their land.
When Tecumseh was only six years old, white settlers started flocking onto land belonging to the Shawnee. His father, who was the Shawnee war chief, was killed by the settlers.
After being adopted by Chief Blackfish and learning all he could about warfare, Tecumseh was determined to do what he could to stop frontiersmen from taking more and more land belonging to Indians.
Tecumseh knew that the Indians didn't have a chance unless they united. So he spent the next twenty years traveling and speaking for Indian unity. He covered thousands of miles across the country, sharing his dream with thou sands of other Indians. He did all he could to persuade them to unite. The dream seemed impossible, but Tecumseh didn't give up hope. By the early 1800s, the name of Tecumseh was known throughout the land.
Then, in 1812, war broke out between Americans and Great Britain. Hoping to get back some of the land taken by the settlers, many Indians sided with the British. Tecumseh fought with great courage, and in 1813, he died during one of .the battles.
Tecumseh's dream was never realized, but his memory has not been lost. He stood firm, fighting for his beliefs.
