听力原文: President Clinton meanwhile says he wants the World Trade Organization to take into account the concerns of free trade opponents when it holds its summit in Seattle, Washington later this month. His comments come in response to plans by free trade critics to stage massive protests at the site of the WTO meeting. Correspondent Deborah Tare has the report from the White House: Tens of thousands of demonstrators from labor, environmental and consumer groups from countries around the world are expected to be on hand when the WTO summit opens Nov. 30, threatening to disrupt the meeting. Opponents believe free-trade leads to lower wages and a degradation of labor standards and the environment in a preemptive strike. Top officials of the Clinton administration fanned out across the country Wednesday to argue that" more trade means more jobs, but not necessarily at the expense of labor or the environment".
