听力原文:M: We are having a debate on advertising tomorrow and I have to take part.
W: That's interesting. I should like to hear what young people think about advertising.
M: Well, we wouldn't know what there is to buy if we didn't have advertising.
W: Yes, that's true — up to a point. Advertisements provide information we need. If someone has produced a new article, naturally the seller wants to tell us about it.
M: Yeah, and advertisements tell us which product is the best.
W: Do they? I don't think so. Every manufacturer says that their product is the best, or at least tries to give us that impression. Only one can be the best, so the others are misleading us, aren't they?
M: Well, in away, I suppose, but we don't have to believe them, do we?
W: Are you saying that advertisements aren't effective? I don't think that intelligent business people would spend millions of dollars on advertising if nobody believed advertisements, do you?
M: Perhaps not, but after all, it is their money that they are spending.
W: Is it? Maybe not. The cost of advertising is added to the price of the goods. You and I and all the other people who buy these goods pay for the advertising!
M: OK, I suppose we get something for our money — some information.
W: Yes, but don't forget it is often misleading information, and sometimes harmful.
What is the main subject of the debate?

A. The popularity of advertisement.
B. The function of advertisement.
C. The ways of advertisement.
D. The benefits of advertisement.

SECTION B PASSAGES
Directions: In this section, you will hear several passages. Listen to the passages carefully and then answer the questions that follow.
听力原文: Any mistake made in the printing of a stamp raises its value to stamp collectors. A mistake on one cheap postage stamp has made the stamp worth a million and a half times its original value. The mistake was made more than a hundred years ago in the British colony of Mauritius, a small island in the Indian Ocean. In 1847 an order for stamps was sent to a London printer--Mauritius was to become the fourth country in the world to issue stamps.
Before the order was filled and delivered, a ball was planned at Mauritius Government House, and stamps were needed to send out the invitations. A local printer was instructed to copy the design for the stamps. He wrote by chance the words "Post Office" instead of "Post Paid" on the several hundred stamps that he printed.
Today there are only 26 of these wrongly printed stamps left I fourteen One Penny Orange-Reds and twelve Two Penny Blues. Because of the Two Penny Blue's rareness and age, collectors have paid as much as $16,800 for it.
In 1847 most countries of the world were

A. not yet using postage stamps.
B. collecting valuable stamps.
C. buying stamps from Mauritius.
D. printing their own stamps.
