听力原文： Facial expressions carry meaning that is determined by situations and relationships. For instance, in American culture the smile is typically an expression of pleasure. Yet it also has other functions. A smile may show affection, convey politeness, or disguise true feelings. It is also a source of confusion across cultures. For example, many people in Russia consider smiling at strangers in public to be unusual and even suspicious behavior. Yet many Americans smile freely at strangers in public places. Some Russians believe that Americans smile in the wrong place; some Americans believe that Russians don't smile enough. In Southeast Asian cultures, a smile is frequently used to cover emotional pain or embarrassment.
Our faces reveal emotions and attitudes, but we should not attempt to "read" people from another culture as we would "read" someone from our own culture. The degree of facial expressiveness one exhibits varies among individuals and cultures. The fact that members of one culture do not express their emotions as openly as do members of another does not mean that they do not experience emotions. Rather, there are cultural restraints on the amount of nonverbal expressiveness permitted.
If we judge people whose ways of showing emotions are different according to our own cultural norms, we may make the mistake of "reading" the other person incorrectly.

W: Not for a while. It's not economical to mass produce.

M: Okay, could you give them to Mike Andrews？ I think he is in your psychology class. He is my roommate.
W: Sure. I hope you're feeling better soon.

听力原文： Hidden passengers traveling in ships, trains, or even cars can be a terrible nuisance--especially when they are insects. In this respect, there is a great difference between human beings and insects. The former make every possible effort to avoid discovery, while the latter quickly draw attention to themselves.
We can only sympathize with the unfortunate man who had to stop his car soon after setting out from a country village to drive to London. Hearing a strange noise from the back of the car, he naturally got but to have a look. He examined the wheels carefully but as he found nothing wrong, he continued his way. The noise began almost immediately and now it was louder than ever. Quickly turning his head, the man saw what appeared to be a great black cloud following the car. When he stopped at a village further on, he was told that a queen bee must be hidden in his car as there were thousands of bees nearby.
On learning this, the man realized that the only way to escape would be to drive away as quickly as possible. After an hour's hard driving, he arrived in London where he parked his car outside a hotel and went in to have a drink. It was not long before a customer who had seen him arrived and hurried in to inform. him that his car was covered with bees. The poor motorist telephoned the police and explained what had happened. The police decided that the best way to deal with the situation would be to call a bee-keeper. In a short time, the bee-keeper arrived. He found the unwelcome passenger hidden near the wheels at the back of the ear. Very grateful to the motorist for his unexpected gift, the keeper took the queen and her thousands of followers home in a large box. Equally grateful, the motorist drove away in peace, at last free from the "black cloud" which had hung over his car.
