听力原文: Fifty years ago, Milton Friedman proposed a Voucher System to improve American education. Today, about 36,000 students are served by vouchers. The programs are in the city of the Washington D. C., and three of the fifty states: Florida, Ohio and Wiseonsin. The number of students will grow with 14, 000 new vouchers just approved by lawmakers in Ohio. And Utah will offer a Voucher program for disabled students. A few states offer tax credits or other forms of support to help parents pay for private schools.
One objection to vouchers has to do with the fact that most private schools are religious. The Constitution separates government and religion. Voucher critics argue that the use of public money for religious schools is unconstitutional. They suggest public schools should get more money so all children can attend good schools near their home.
Yet some people think all families should be offered vouchers, not just poor ones. Milton Freidman and his wife started the Milton and Rose D. Friedman Foundation to work for school choice with the goal to improve, through competition, the quality of education for all.
Milton Friedman had his ninety-third birthday on Sunday. The Nobel Prize-winning economist has been talking to reporters about the fiftieth anniversary of his proposal. Mr. Friedman told Education Week that he thinks fifty years from now, all students will be served by school vouchers.
The target of the voucher programs is

A. to improve American education.
B. to cause competition among schools.
C. to support children in poor families.
D. to support disabled children.

SECTION B PASSAGES
Directions: In this section, you will hear several passages. Listen to the passages carefully and then answer the questions that follow.
听力原文: It is not surprising that people hardly ever associate Britain with wine and in fact it may astonish you to learn that grapes are grown broadly in England and nearly 200,000 bottles of wine were sold in 1975. It is nothing new in growing grapes in Britain, in spite of the climate. The Romans planted the first vines about A. D. 300 and for a long time people always drank home-produced wines. What destroyed the English wine industry was not so much a change in the climate as the fact that an English king, Henry II, inherited the Bordeaux area of France as part of his dominions since the twelfth century and the imported wine provided a great deal of competition. The English wine industry did not disappear, however, until the sixteenth century, when the monks, who had been the main producers in the meantime, had been taken away their estates by Henry VIII. The new owner let the vineyards die out. But now English people, probably due to their memories of holidays by the Mediterranean, drink more wine than ever, and the new industry is now developing at a modest but' consistent rate.
______may not be responsible for the ruin of the wine industry in Britain.

A. The decline of the quality of the British wine
B. The English king, Henry Ⅱ
C. The English king, Henry Ⅷ
D. The imported wine's competition and the change of climate

听力原文: What is your favorite color? If you like yellow, orange or red, you must be an optimist, an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement. If you prefer gray and blue, then you're probably quiet, shy, and you would rather follow than lead. You tend to be a pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists tell us, and they should know because they have been seriously studying the meaning of color preferences as well as the effects that colors have on human beings. They' tell us, among other facts, that we do not choose our favorite color as we grow up since we were born with our favorite. If you. happen to love brown, you did so, as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.
Colors do influence our moods. Light and bright colors make people happier and more energetic. A black bridge over the Thames River, near London, used to be the scene of more suicides than any other bridge in the area until it was repainted green. The number of suicide immediately fell sharply. Perhaps it would have fallen even more if the bridge had been done in pink or baby blue.
It's an established fact that factory workers work better, harder and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or gray.
What is the passage going to tell us?

A. The functions of colors,
B. The great finding of the psychologists.
C. The best way to make use of colors.
D. The effects of colors on people.

听力原文:W: Jackson, I heard that everything went on well with you several years ago.
M: Do let me forget it. At that time I had a wonderful life and was on top of the world. I don't know what drove me to seek diversion in poker machines. So pretty soon I was going to play the pokies quite often and yes I was enjoying myself and sometimes even won a few dollars.
W: Is the game so attractive?
M: You never know. It has a kind of magic. I was totally consumed. Anyway the whole story is long and covers the last seven years and though I have tried to be unemotional. I must say now that I have been through hell and I've felt as if I was already dead.
W: For so long a time, haven't you ever thought to wash your hands?
M: When I am gambling, I don't care about anything else. I know I was addicted and powerless to stop. I've lost much. Even so all I can dream of is the big win.
W: Several years has passed, tell us what your feeling is now?
M: I end up just as bad, and hate myself. My health suffered, my finance was in ruin, and I didn't have the willpower to stop. I have been homeless many times and my life has become unmanageable.
W: That's a crying shame. It's high time you turned over a new leaf. Wish you success.
