听力原文: First of all you will notice that an alcoholic will often gulp drinks, he can probably drink a lot before he gets drunk, he may stay drunk for several days, he will also have a favorite drink, and may change his favorite drink to another. I would like to point out that kids who live with a parent that drinks all of the time feel as though they were the reason why that person drinks all the time.
Alcoholism is an illness. It is very hard for an alcoholic to stop drinking because they are afraid to. Alcoholics usually try to stop drinking because they may have hurt someone they love or may also be on the verge of losing their job.
People who stop drinking sometimes may have to go to the hospital for a period of time this is called detoxification. This is the best way for treatment when it is hard for them to stop.
The withdrawal symptoms are things such as shaking, sweating, fever, pains and nausea. These can be severe and dangerous to that person's health. After detoxification comes rehabilitation, a period of time when the person starts to recover mentally and physically. Most alcoholics will go to AA meetings during this time. This is where they can go and meet other alcoholics just like them. What if that parent goes back to drinking? That is called a setback or a slip which is very common. Most children will be disappointed with their parent but you must understand that it is very hard.

听力原文:W: Mac, what are you doing?
M: Making the bed, Liz.
W: You know what, Mac? Connie's going to get a face lift.
M: Oh?
W: She even said she'd get the rest done, too!
M: The rest?
W: Yeah ! Mac, if my breasts were saggy, would you still love me?
M: What?
W: Answer my question, please !
M: What a silly question! Love has nothing to do with breasts being large or small, or being firm or saggy.
W: I'm just asking. You don't have to be impatient.
M: And Connie. She's crazy! No one can sustain youth forever.
W: Yeah. That's what I told her. Oh, I think I'm getting old. The forehead is wrinkled, the eyes are puffy, the sacks under the eyes are dark, and the skin is no longer as resilient as it was. Why! Age has set in ! Maybe I also need a lift. Maybe, I need a new life ! Oh, I really miss the good old days. At that time, my skin really felt so baby smooth!
M: Liz, what're you murmuring about? It's getting late. You should'ye been in bed minutes ago...
What is Connie going to do?

A. She is going to receive a plastic surgery.
B. She is going to lift something on her face.
C. She is going to make up for the sake of face.

听力原文:M: Do you know where Arthur is?
W: I do not know, Paul.
M: He is a fool. And if he did anything I shouldn't mind. But no, he simply can't come away from a game of whist, or else he must see a girl home from the skating-rink and so can't get home.
W: I don't know that it would make it any better if he did something to make us all ashamed.
M: Are you fearfully fond of him, Mum?
W: What do you ask that for?
M: Because they say a woman always likes the youngest best.
W: She may do -- but I don't. No, he wearies me.
M: And you'd actually rather he was good?
W: I'd rather he showed some of a man's common sense.
M: Here is a letter. It's from him.
W: What now !
M: My dearest Mother, I don't know what made me such a fool. I want you to come and fetch me back from here. I came with Jack Bredon yesterday, instead of going to work, and enlisted. Like the idiot you know I am, I came away with him. I have taken the King's shilling, but perhaps if you came for me they would let me go back with you. I don't want to be in the army. My dear mother, I am nothing but a trouble to you. But if you get me out of this, I promise I will have more sense and consideration...
W: Well, now, let him stop!
Arthur is Paul's ______.

A. son
B. father
