听力原文:W: So, what are we going to show the freshmen on their orientation?
M: Well, I thought that we should meet at the main gate, since it's easy to find and convenient for those students arriving by public transport.
W: OK. I see that you want to bring them here first. I suppose that's fair enough. We need to make sure that they can get from the main gate to the department.
M: That's exactly what I thought. In a way, it's good that we are quite far from the main gate. I can point out the Student Union and library on the way.
W: Now, you said that you wanted me to show them round the department myself.
M: If you wouldn't mind. I think it's better that you, as department head, get a chance to talk to them for a while, rather than just saying 'hello' and then disappearing.
W: I quite agree. I'll show them the labs, seminar rooms, and the professors' offices. We're a small department, so it shouldn't wear them out!
M: Thanks very much for doing that. I hope it's not too much trouble. I really do think that we need to make them feel at home right from the start.
W: I couldn't agree more. I remember that I was terrified when I first went to uni. All those strange places and faces! What are you going to do with them afterwards?
M: Then I'll show them the canteen and sports centre on the east side of the campus.
W: Don't forget to show them the Bookshop and be ready to help out with any students who have problems.
M: Got it. I can show them the bookshop on the way back to the main gate.

听力原文: Billy grabbed his fishing rod from the closet and headed for the back door. As he went out the door, he called to his grandmother that he would be back soon. When he reached the river, he put bait on his hook and threw the line into the water. Billy didn't have any friends so he always went fishing with his Grandfather. They always did the housework together first and then went fishing.
Sometimes Grandmother would pack their lunches and they would stay all afternoon. After his Grandfather died, he felt lonely and very sad. He had a hard time believing that his best friend wouldn't be with him anymore.
After Billy's Grandfather died he had to do extra housework. He tried to spend time with his Grandmother so that she wouldn't feel so alone. He could tell that she missed him be cause she cried a lot and it hurt Billy to see her cry. He kept himself busy so that he wouldn't feel so sad, but a hard as he tired, he couldn't help missing his Grandfather. Billy suddenly saw that his rod was moving, he must have caught a fish! The fish on the end of the line swam wildly in the water, but Billy fought with it until finally he had the fish on the bank. It was a large trout and Grandmother would be glad to have it for dinner. He showed her the fish and she smiled as she took it into the house to clean it. That night after he had gone to bed, Billy looked through his window at the stars and felt that his Grandfather was watching over him. One bright star stood alone and seemed to twinkle brightly. Billy looked at it for a moment before he said, "Goodnight Grandfather," and went to sleep.
