听力原文: Although there may be thousands of different kinds of iobs, as I see it there are basically only two kinds of work. One is the sort that is done for its own sake, and it usually proves rewarding in itself. The other sort is that which is done in return for a weekly wage, in factories or on building sites.

The worst thing of all is having a job that gives you no comfort at all. A factory worker says, "For eight hours a day, five days a weck, my life seems to be in a vacuum. Work to me means nothing." Another man may say." I have little other interest in the job than getting my money on Friday and getting out of the building as fast as I can."
An office clerk may say, "An office clerk produces nothing. He runs a paper chase which goes on from year to year, and seems utterly meaningless."
An advertising writer may feel guilty of earning so much just for writing the ads. He says, "Every time I'm asked to write the label for a tin of beans, I feel absurd. And every time my cheque arrives I'm glad I'm not earning as little as the girl who worked the machine that put the beans in the tin."

M: Well, I'm working on a term paper about the influence of television on recent presidential elections. I found Some books I need at the main library, but I was told that the library here at the graduate school had more specialized materials.
W: Of course it depends on what you want, but We do have a large number of journals. You'll probably have to do a lot of digging. It may take some time. We also have quite a few newspapers on microfilm.
M: I think I've come to the right place. How can I find out which journals you have?
W: I can give you a list of all of them. But if you want to search by author or by subject you. can use one of the computers over there in the corner.
M: What if I run across a reference that isn't available here?
W: You can request any outside material just by typing your request into the computer.
M: You mean you can get material from other universities?
