Directions: In this section, you will hear 3 short passages. At the end of each passage, you will hear some questions. Both the passage and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a question, you must choose the best answer from the four choices marked A, B, C and D.
听力原文： In Britain, if you are found guilty of a crime, you can be sent to prison or be fined or be ordered to do community work such as tidying public places and helping the old. You may also be sent t0 special centers where you learn practical skills like cooking, writing and car maintenance. Around 5% of the prison population are women. Many prisons were built over 100 years ago. But the government will have built 11 new prisons by next year. There are two sorts of prisons: the open sort and the closed sort. In the closed sort, prisoners axe given very little freedom. They spend three to ten horns outside their cells when they exercise, eat, study, learn skills, watch TV and talk to other prisoners. All prisoners are expected to work. Most of them are paid for what they do whether they are doing maintenance, or cooking or cleaning. Prisoners in open prisons are locked up at night, but for the rest of the time, they are free within the prison grounds. They can exercise, have visitors or study and some are allowed out of the grounds to study or do community work.

Dogs are the only customers. There is seating for twenty of them. On the menu, there is a variety of special tasty dishes for the dogs to choose from.
In the United States, there is a very rich cat, who can afford to go to any restaurant he chooses. His name is Kitty Cat. Kitty Cat received one hundred thousand dollars when his owner died. In addition, the owner left Kitty Cat a beautiful house to live in. There is a person who comes to the house every day to feed and take care of Kitty Cat.
Of course, in most parts of the world, pets don't live in such wealth and luxury. There is a more practical and functional attitude toward pets. People own cats and dogs because they keep away mice and other unwanted animals. Certainly, owners generally have some affectionate feeling for their pets. However, they do not see them as equal to family members. In most places in the world, there isn't any special clothing, or jewelry, or gourmet food for these animals. There aren't any special restaurants for the dogs. There are no rich cats who live in large and beautiful houses.
Pets around the world live in a great variety of ways, just as people do.
