Jefferson then made a clean or "fair" copy of the composition declaration, which became the foundation of the document, labeled by Jefferson as the "original Rough draught. " Revised first by Adams, then by Franklin, and then by the full committee, a total of forty-seven alterations including the insertion of three complete paragraphs was made on the text before it was presented to Congress on June 28. After voting for independence on July 2, the Congress then continued to refine the document, making thirty-nine additional revisions to the committee draft before its final adoption on the morning of July 4. The "Original Rough Draught" embodies the multiplicity of corrections, additions and deletions that were made at each step. Although most of the alterations are in Jefferson's handwriting (Jefferson later indicated the changes he believed to have been made by Adams and Franklin), quite naturally he opposed many of the changes made to his document.
Congress then ordered the Declaration of Independence printed and late on July 4, John Dunlap, a Philadelphia printer, produced the first printed text of the Declaration of Independence, now known as the "Dunlap Broadside. " The next day John Hancock, the president of the Continental Congress, began dispatching copies of the Declaration to America's political and military leaders. On July 9, George Washington ordered that his personal copy of the "Dunlap Broadside," sent to him by John Hancock on July 6, be read to the assembled American army at New York. In 1783 at the war's end, General Washington brought his copy of the broadside home to Mount Vernon. This remarkable document, which has come down to us only partially intact, is accompanied in this exhibit by a complete "Dunlap Broadside"—one of only twenty-four known to exist.
On July 19, Congress ordered the production of an engrossed (officially inscribed) copy of the Declaration of Independence, which attending members of the Continental Congress, including some who had not voted for its adoption, began to sign on August 2, 1776. This document is on permanent display at the National Archives.
On July 4, 1995, more than two centuries after its composition, the Declaration of Independence, just as Jefferson predicted on its fiftieth anniversary in his letter to Roger C. Weightman, towers aloft as "the signal of arousing men to burst the chains.., to assume the blessings and security of self-government" and to restore "the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. "

听力原文:W: Okay, as an adult, what are some of the ways you've done about trying to become a better reader and writer?
M: When I'm walking down the street, I look at things. When I'm sitting on the bus, I might look at the signs and read them. I read a little more now than I used to. I don't always have time to go home and pick up a book and read because I have three kids.
W: Right. So that's something you think would make you a better reader, but you don't usually have time to do it.
M: Oh yeah. If you could pick up a book every day, it would make you a better reader.
W: How do you know?
M: Oh I know that for a fact. Because when I just had one child, I was able to do that. One child is a big difference than three. I was able to do more for myself than I am now. Like Mr. Mark, another learner in the program, for instance, is much more advanced than I am. That's because he can pick up a book every day and practice every day. His wife helps him. I don't have anybody to help me, and when I get stuck on something, I get fed up. I put it down and try to begin the next day. But I may not have the time for the next day. When my kids go to sleep, I'm ready to go to sleep. Or I might just want to sit up, look at a picture and relax my mind. It's real difficult.
W: So the difference between you and Mr. Mark is that he has more time and he has someone to help him?
M: Right, right.
W: Anything else that makes it different for him?
M: He doesn't have as much responsibilities as I do. He's older. I believe he's still working, but nothing like a full-time job. He doesn't have as many worries as I do. He has been where I'm trying to get. He may own his home already. And that's a big difference.
W: How do you know a book is harder or easier?
M: By the words. An easier book, I maybe could break down so many words in that book. A harder one, I can't break down maybe one or two. Then I know it's harder.
W: Does anything else make a book harder or easier?
M: I think it's like reading words where the print is not so fine. I hate books with small letters. It scares me. They are written down real small. But when they are bigger, and bigger letters I don't mean like capitals—I mean bigger letters. You can see more easily. I can see them better. I could go through it like that and see the words that I know. When they are in small print, I can't figure out the ones. I just have to read it to find if I can read it or not.

听力原文:Woman: I want to watch TV and improve my English. What is your favorite TV show?
Man: I like sitcoms. (8[A]) I watch "Friends" a lot. I never missed a single episode. Of course there are other sitcoms like "Wings," "Frazier,' "Family Ties". Those axe all very good.
Woman: What time do they come on?
Man: Mostly in the evenings. These are actually old shows, but NBC has re-runs of them. "Frazier" is on from 6:00 to 6:30 on NBC every day week days. "Friends" is from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, also on NBC. Channels like Nick-at-Nite show older sitcoms almost every night except Sundays.
Woman: What are the older sitcoms?
Man: "Cheers" is a good one. "All in the Family," "Three's Company," and "Family Ties" are all great ones. (9[C]) But they are usually shown very late at night, beginning from 10:00 PM until 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning.
Woman: Which ones are the movie channels?
Man: (10[B]) Channel 45 is Super-Station. That channel has a lot of good movies. TNT is channel 17. You can also find many movies on TNT. What's bothering me is the commercials. A two-hour movie can run three and half-hours because of the commercials. That's really annoying.
What sitcom does the man like best?

A. Friends.
B. Family Ties.
Cheers.
D. All in the Family.
