Wave soldering is a process by which large printed circuit boards can be soldered quickly and reliably during PCB assembly.
The wave soldering process gains its name from the fact that the process passes the printed circuit boards to be soldered over a wave of solder (consists of a heated tank of solder). Wave soldering is usually used in PCB assembly for through hole mounted components.
Reflow soldering is the most common method of attaching surface mount technology ( SMT ) components to a printed circuit board. The goal of the reflow process is to heat and melt the solder, without overheating and damaging the electrical components.
Instead automatic optical inspection is a far more viable solution. Machines are available that are able to inspect boards and detect poor joints, misplaced components, and under some instances the wrong component.
